The Impressive Basement Retention System used to Retain Coode Island Silt in Port Melbourne
An impressive shoring arrangement has been used in a basement retention system on a difficult site comprising sand, Moray Street Gravels & Coode Island Silt under hydrostatic pressure less than 100 m from the shore of Port Phillip Bay. A redesign nominated the use of over 1 m diameter hydraulic MEGA braces in lieu of ground anchors to support the 2-storey basement’s 8 m deep, 500 mm thick diaphragm walls.
